The objective of Freecell is to create four stacks of 13 cards, each representing the same suit. These stacks must be arranged in ascending order from Ace (A) to King (K).

The game is played with a single deck of 52 cards laid out in eight rows, all face-up. Players can move cards from these columns by utilizing four designated "usable units" for temporary placement and four "recycling units" where the winning stacks are assembled.

To play, cards can be dragged from the bottom of each column to one of the following:

 <li>A usable unit, where only one card can be placed at a time.</li>
 <li>Another column, ensuring that cards are arranged in descending order while alternating colors (red and black).</li>
 <li>A recycling unit, where stacks must consist of cards from the same suit starting with Ace.</li>
</ul>

For effective gameplay, players should strategically manage card movements. Prioritizing the transfer of Aces to recycling units helps clear rows and create long string combinations. Furthermore, maintaining as many available units as possible allows for greater flexibility in moves. Clearing entire columns can also facilitate smoother gameplay by enabling players to fill them with larger cards starting from King (K) whenever feasible.
